The Instituto Murciano de Investigación y Desarrollo Agrario y Alimentario, IMIDA, is a Public Centre for Research, Development and Innovation, mainly in the field of the Agricultural Sector, which includes Livestock, Marine Crops and Environment, and also works in other fields of knowledge, such as biotechnology applied to medicine and pharmacy.

It is structured in six departments that include the following teams: Natural Phytochemicals; Crop Protection; Biological Control and Ecosystem Services; Biotechnology; Citrus Improvement; Table Grape Improvement; Fruit Tree Improvement; Horticultural Crop Improvement; Molecular Genetic Improvement; Dryland Crops for Rural Development; Horticultural Sustainability and Quality; Oenology and Viticulture; Bioeconomics; Irrigation and Stress Physiology; SIGyT; Fruit Trees; Horticulture; Aquaculture and Animal Genetic Improvement and Livestock Development.

Currently, we are working on about 100 projects under different programs and calls, as well as collaborations and contracts with companies, universities and other research centers.

In addition to the headquarters in La Alberca, Murcia, IMIDA has another 11 facilities of its own with more than 70 hectares of cultivable land, the Marine Aquaculture Station in San Pedro del Pinatar and the Oenological Station  in Jumilla. A BAGERIM Germplasm Bank with more than 600 entries provides unique genetic material in traditional vegetable, fruit and citrus varieties.
